Dehumidifier Science: How It Works!

Humidity problems can be a basements worst nightmare. Not only can it bring nasty mold or dust mites, but a musty basement can smell unpleasant making it an unusable space. A method to combat humidity and all the problems it brings, is a basement dehumidifier.

We use a SaniDry XP, an efficient dehumidification and air filtration unit designed to dry up your basement space or crawl space and all the storage in it! Here's how it works:

SaniDry XP System Steps

  1. Air is filtered through the system in stages. The first stage is focused on filtering large particles out of the basement air. It keeps filtering out these larger particles until the next stage which is filtering smaller and smaller particles – about two microns in size, which is smaller than any mold spore or dust mite dropping. This stage is what effectively kills the odor problems in basements.

  1.  After the filtering, the air is blown over a large cold-coil. Its' appearance is similar to a truck radiator – a larger cold coil compared to a smaller one is more effective at reducing humidity. The air is cooled below its dew point causing the water to condense and fall out.

  1. Once the air is passed over the cold coil, the SaniDry runs the dry, cold air through a heat exchange core and  pre-cools the next incoming wet air to recapture energy. Then the air is reheated close to the original temperature.

  1. Finally the dry air is then blown out of the dehumidifier and around your basement space drying the air and the contents in your basement. Once the air is dried and returned, the water flows out of the water tray and drained into your sump pump, water guard system, or directly outside.

Humidity problems can cause headaches, figuratively and literally, until they are out of controlA basement dehumidifier can help remedy the problem and reduce the chances of  it coming back in the future and give you back a dry and odorless basement space
