When people ask what I do, many things come to mind. I have worked in the media field for over 15 years. I worked as a journalist, a photojournalist, and field producer for various affiliates (NBC & CBS). I learned how to tell stories and make them memorable.
I carried those skills over when I co-founded Blur in 2008. Starting a business required all my media skills and tested my business skills. Quickly I learned what it took to run a business; backend book work, establishing systems, client relations, project management and business strategy. There was both strategy for our company but also our client’s strategy. When new employees come aboard I moved into the Executive Producer position. In that capacity, I worked on key messaging, script writing, creative and the production of videos. Working with clients on this level opened doors and possibilities.
In 2015 Blur had grown large enough to attract different companies. In January, we merged with Flying Hippo to create Des Moines only marketing company with a full-time video staff. Here I'm using my skills; storytelling, producing, business development and digital strategy. In many ways, my well-rounded skill set fits perfectly in this environment. With an emphasis on branding I'm working with clients/companies that are taking a comprehensive look at their companies and ways to grow them.
When the opportunity came up to join the Midwest Basement Systems team I jumped on it. The unique service that MBS provides is important to homeowners and the lead generation is challenging. I'm looking forward to using my skills to better serve MBS and allowing the general public to easily find a solution to their basement problems.
