MIDWEST BASEMENTY BLOG: 7 Ways To Prepare Your Sump Pump For Spring

Sump pumps that sit idle for long periods of time might malfunction when the rain starts if they aren't properly serviced. Here are a couple of ways to make sure you don't end up with a wet basement this spring.

1. Do a simple inspection of your sump pump area, making sure your pump is plugged into a wall outlet and not an extension cord.

2. If you have a battery back-up make sure it is charged and functional. If you don't have a battery back-up, consider investing in one.

3. Inspect the inside of the pump making sure your inlet is clear and there is nothing inside clogging or blocking your pump.

4. Keep your gutters and downspouts clear of debris and ensure that your downspout is connected and feeds away from your house.

6. To protect against excessive rain that a single pump can't handle consider a multi-pump system such as the Super Sump® or a Triple Safe Pump®

 Triple Safe® Sump Pump System

6. Check the alarm batteries in your sump pump to ensure that you will be notified with any abnormalities in water levels.

7. Have your sump scheduled for a professional service. Services extend the life of your sump pump and will ensure it is functioning properly.

The last thing you want to be doing this spring is dealing with a flooded basement. These steps should help you avoid a pump failure and recognize an out of date pump.

Enjoy the spring whether, don't fear it.
